Synthetic beeswax: the benefits of a product suitable for vegans, increasingly used in cosmetics

Scientists managed to create it in the laboratory. It replicates almost the same utilities as that produced by bees. In which products is it already used?
The beauty products industry has been concerned in recent years to incorporate practices that protect animals and several components have been replaced by synthetic options

Beeswax has always been used to formulate cosmetics for its moisturizing and creamy qualities . From lipsticks, to mascara or cleansing lotions and shaving foams, it gives an unparalleled sensation of softness. It is also used in emulsions to reduce scar marks, for those intended for the maintenance of dreadlocks and for the creation of solid perfumes.

ButThe beauty products industry has been concerned in recent years to incorporate practices that protect animals and several components have been replaced by synthetic options. In the case of beeswax, although its use does not imply the death of insects, it means aintervention in their habitat that disturbs the normal development of the hives.

That is why products that use beeswaxare not considered to be "animal cruelty free". For that reason,Many people have stopped purchasing products that incorporate it in their formulation.

Although it is impossible to replicate honey or propolis, both obtained from bees and with many health benefits, scientists have managed to create synthetic wax.

It is a product generated in the laboratory that mimics the properties of that given by bees. It is formulated with fatty acids and alcohols, all of which is filtered to obtain a product that is very similar to wax. What's more,it is much cheaper than natural wax and is easy to produce on a large scale.

As it is a product in which bees are not involved, it is suitable for use by vegans.. In any case, in the case of those who practice veganism, not all products that contain synthetic wax are free from the use of animals, since there are different ways of making synthetic wax andsome incorporate lanolin, a substance derived from sheep, which is not considered vegan.

According to that entity, "this ingredient is present in 0.77% of cosmetics." Within this group, 22.01% are mascaras, 15.81% eye pencils, 9.08% lipsticks, 7.23% eyeliners and 7.09% eyebrow pencils.

Laboratory work has ensured that this almost exact replica provides practically the same benefits as natural wax.It can be said that the skin is the great beneficiary of this discovery.

This ingredient is present in 0.77% of cosmetics. Within this group, 22.01% are mascaras, 15.81% eye pencils, 9.08% lipsticks, 7.23% eyeliners and 7.09% eyebrow pencils.

On the one hand, it helps prevent the loss of moisture from the skin as it creates a protective layer that prevents the water contained in the dermis from escaping. This while softening and giving it shine. On the other hand, it mimics the creamy texture of natural wax, a property for which both have been incorporated into beauty products to create formulas that are pleasant to apply and that give the products the necessary consistency to be easy to use and glide smoothly over the skin.

The synthetic wax is almost an identical copy of the one produced by the bee, but there is something that could not be included in the laboratory formula. And it is that natural wax contains components such as beta-carotene and flavonoids, that have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, something that those who opt for the manufactured option will not be able to benefit from.

Another benefit that the production of synthetic wax has brought is that people allergic to honey or pollen can use the product without problems, contrary to what happens with those cosmetics that contain beeswax. As with others, those allergic to formulations that improve the color or appearance of synthetic wax could be harmed. There are brands that generate purer products than others.
